Rockin' at the RCA

When they took off for Indianapolis, 17-year old Jon Doe was a little surprised his Dad would let him go. It was quite a jaunt from Jon's hometown; 7-hours round trip to the Farm Aid Benefit Concert at the RCA Dome. The annual concert, conceived by the legendary Willie Nelson, bandana-wearing country entertainer, was a big time event. But Jon and his friends were not there for the country venue; they were there to see the rock group, Guns n' Roses.

As Jon remembers, the concert was great. They saw Guns n' Roses and Willie Nelson, too. But maybe the most memorable moment cropped up in an ordinary hallway just after the concert. That's when these blue jean, tee-shirt clad kids from Evanston spotted Duff McCagan, Guns n' Roses base guitar player. Jon explains, "He was just standing there—like a person." One moment Duff was there—they were talking to him. In the next moment, Duff was gone, as Jon remembers, with a "bimbo blonde." It was a moment to remember—only a moment—but for Jon, "it was totally rock and roll."
